Accessing SUSE Manager web UI errors with Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

This document (7023644) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager 3.1
SUSE Manager 3.2

Situation

When trying to access the web UI of SUSE Manager the following error messages is shown:
Secure connection Failed - An error occured during connection to x.x.x.x SSL received
a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length. Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG

Resolution

To fix the issue restore the file from backup when it worked last time. If no backup is available, please open service request to get help to recreate correct version.

Cause

Cause for this is a faulty configuration of the SSL virtual host in apache configuration /etc/apache2/vhosts.d/vhost-ssl.conf. It may be wrong port, missing SSL config or file may be missing completely and therefore the listener port (which is by default 443) would try to communicate not via SSL.
