SLES12 SP1 - xfs_growfs requires a remount of a grown filesystem

This document (7017784) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)

Situation

Installed components:
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP1
xfsprogs-3.2.1-3.5 Kernel: 3.12.57-60.35-default

After growing a LVM logical volume, followed by a xfs_growfs to enlarge the XFS file system, there are
still "No space left on device" errors when creating files on this file system.

Resolution

A remount of this file system with the following command works around this problem.
# mount -o remount /<grown_XFS_file_system>

A fix for this problem has been included in the successor kernel 3.12.62-60.62-default.

Cause

This is caused by the XFS kernel driver not updating all fields in the XFS superblock during xfs_growfs.
