Today, SUSE Linux, the international technology leader and provider of Open Source solutions, presented the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server at CeBIT in Hanover, Germany. The continuing maintenance services provided by the manufacturer ensure a maximum level of security and stability. "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server" from Europe's leading Linux specialist is an operating system streamlined for the utilization in servers. The operating system basis is optimized for security and stability and comprises all relevant server services. "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server" is a reliable platform for e-mail and Internet services as well as for the implementation of file and print services in heterogeneous environments (UNIX, Windows 9x/NT/2000, Novell Netware, MacOS). Since it is extremely failsafe, "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server" is the application server of choice even for mission-critical applications.

"Robustness, scalability, and comprehensive network capabilities are the main pillars of SUSE Linux, which has demonstrated its potential during the past nine years," said Roland Dyroff, CEO, SUSE Linux AG. "Already established in the lower and medium server segments, Linux operates in a reliable and failsafe manner in department and web servers of countless companies in various sectors."

"Due to its open interfaces, SUSE Linux meets all technical requirements to be an expandable, future-oriented, and cost-efficient platform for e-commerce solutions. On a global scale, SUSE Linux is the operating system with the most comprehensive support for different hardware architectures, making it the predestined choice for the consolidation of complex server structures," added Dirk Hohndel, CTO SUSE Linux AG.

"SUSE Linux Enterprise Server" is the final result of SUSEs diversification of its Linux products targeting different audiences, which began within the last six months. With "SUSE Linux Personal", the company succeeded in introducing Linux to individual users who have not used Linux before. The expanded scope of "SUSE Linux Professional" created enthusiasm among the traditional customer group of technically inclined users.

"The combination of Compaq ProLiant servers and SUSE Linux constitutes the ideal platform for companies with stringent performance, stability, and availability requirements. This server operating system is especially suitable for intensive computing applications, which are often the basis for mission-critical applications in the industry. Our long-standing strong partnership will satisfy the needs of even the most demanding customers," explains Peter Mark Droste, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Compaq Computer GmbH.

SUSE Guarantees Stability and Security

Today Linux continues to be the fastest-growing operating system for servers, thereby sustaining the trend of the past two years. According to the latest figures provided by the International Data Corporation (IDC), in 2000 Linux constituted 27 percent of the server operating systems, representing a sales increase of 24 percent over 1999.

With an increasing number of commercial applications, more and more companies decide to utilize Linux even in complex, mission-critical applications. In order to ensure maximum security and stability as the basis for smooth operation, SUSE offers customer-specific maintenance services: the customer documents his company's hardware equipment, the server services and the applications. Subsequently, SUSE selects updates and security patches relevant for the customer and informs him about the availability on the SUSE FTP server.

"SUSE Linux Enterprise Server" will be available starting mid-April and will be delivered on three CDs accompanied by a 300-page manual. The price of 198 Euro + VAT includes 30 days of installation support (for one computer). The charges for the maintenance support (per computer) amounts to a quarterly sum of 180 Euro + VAT. "SUSE Linux Enterprise Server" can be obtained directly from the manufacturer or from qualified software retailers.
