Agreement Boosts Linux in the Data Center - Industry's Most Scalable, Cluster File System Supported by SUSE

Sistina Software, the premier storage infrastructure software company delivering data-sharing solutions, and SUSE Linux today announced a technology agreement to certify and support Sistina's file system and volume management software giving customers full enterprise-level support for SUSE Linux deployments in the data center.

Sistina GFS™ (Global File System) enables multiple computers to share a single, common view of storage data-allowing companies to consolidate server and storage resources onto a single management domain, linking thousands of diverse data storage repositories into a massively scalable, secure and stable storage area network (SAN). Under the agreement, SUSE Linux and Sistina will offer seamless support for patches, updates and service packs and provide enterprise users access to 24x7 support.

"We are pleased to be working closely with Sistina to ensure best-of-breed capabilities within our SUSE Linux Enterprise Server," said Holger Dyroff, general manager, Americas, SUSE Linux. "Deployments of mission-critical applications on Linux in enterprises today are ubiquitous, and the necessity of high-performance, scalable and robust data-sharing storage solutions are a must in the data center. By partnering with Sistina, SUSE further solidifies its commitment to providing first-class solutions and support to our enterprise customers."

"This agreement shows that both Sistina Software and SUSE Linux are leaders in the effort to move Linux adoption into the data center," said John Webster, senior analyst and founder, Data Mobility Group. "Linux migration in the past has been hindered by a lack of product functionality necessary to support mission critical environments. With this announcement, these companies are showing that the functionality is arriving."

Also embedded in the SUSE operating system and supported by SUSE is Sistina's Logical Volume Manager (LVM) 1.0, which is included in the Linux kernel and every major Linux distribution. LVM provides tens of thousands of end-users worldwide with high performance, ease of management and key features enabling crucial backup applications.

"As more enterprises adopt Linux, SUSE and Sistina's collaboration provides a strong foundation and robust solution set for mission-critical applications such as Oracle, SAP, NFS and more," said Peter O'Brien, Sistina's vice president of OEM sales. "Sistina is pleased to be working closely with SUSE enabling additional deployments of Linux in high-performance, clustered, Intel-bladed environments."

Available from SUSE in October, Sistina GFS support will be offered with Service Pack 3 at no additional charge. For a free, 30-day trial version of the software, visit http://www.sistina.com/products_gfs.htm to request an evaluation copy, or to obtain additional information.
