Today, SUSE Linux, the international technology leader and solution provider in open source operating system (OS) software, jointly announced a partnership with M-Code, creator of the Software Nervous System platform for software metering, monitoring and remote management.

SUSE is known globally for setting standards for quality and ease of use with its Linux distribution and support services. M-Code's technology is a platform that enables software creators and application service providers (ASPs) to both monitor and remotely manage the functions of their choice within their software.

The metering agent this system employs is aptly named the X-Meter, as it meters virtually anything within compiled code. Jointly-identified components of the OS will be X-Meter enabled, in addition to the technology being bundled with the distribution. SUSE Linux users and developers will be able to immediately take advantage of X-Meter functionality native on SUSE distribution. This functionality will supply users and developers with information about performance monitoring, application usage, remote feature/function analysis and will allow for remote feature authorization.

"This powerful monitoring technology is a service we're very excited to provide to our SUSE clients," said Volker Wiegand, President of SUSE Inc. "With SUSE Linux X-Meter-enabled, our customers who are software developers will be able to know exactly what's going on inside every instance of their application."

"SUSE industry reputation for high quality Linux services and global Linux distribution makes them an ideal partner for M-Code," said M-Code founder and CEO Charles Manning. "They've demonstrated steadfast dedication towards seeing Linux succeed in the business world, and we join SUSE in that objective. The potential of including the X-Meter technology in SUSE standard distribution is an exciting step toward advancing both the power of Linux as an OS and the transition of software to usage-based business models," said Manning.
