SUSE the international technology leader and solution provider in open source operating system (OS) software, has opened their new Latin America headquarters office in Caracas, Venezuela. Xavier Marmol, well known to the Latin American Linux Community, has been chosen to run SUSE Latin America presence.
Marmol will expand the SUSE Linux market share as well as promoting an overall understanding and appreciation of Linux benefits. The SUSE Linux Caracas office will offer an extensive range of products, services, and Linux training while actively engaging and supporting a greater network of SUSE business partners throughout Venezuela and other Latin American countries.
Xavier Marmol is highly regarded in the Latin American Linux community. He was previously the Network Administrator at the University of Zulia Academic Network. As an active Linux advocate since 1995, he successfully implemented Linux OS for the Universities network of several hundred computers. As founding President of VELUG (Venezuela Linux User Group) in 1997, he led the initiative to include VELUG achievements at the Latin American LinuxWeek, the first Spanish speaking Linux event. Marmol was also the first content manager of the Spanish LinuxStart.com Web site.
"The Latin American Linux market has a high potential. We noticed a growing demand for high quality Linux, especially from commercial users. These two facts made it imperative for us to establish an office there," said Roland Dyroff, CEO of SUSE Linux AG. "We are proud to have a Linux expert like Xavier Marmol in our new Venezuelan office, creating a standard for Linux in Latin America."
