As times change, so do our expectations. For example, we don’t expect the same level of performance from laptops that are 20 years old vs. today’s laptops and tablets.

So, why would we expect servers from the early ’90s to be able to manage advanced analytic and cloud computing needs?  Decades-old, proprietary PC-based technology was not built to handle massive streams of data and a barrage of new workloads, and when it’s used, it triggers the purchase of more servers to handle the work.
