You already know this – an application must be reliable and performant otherwise IT departments get flooded with quality of service complaints. This holds true for your OpenStack cloud applications – whether they are true cloud or traditional business-critical applications, or on-premise or off-premise. You also probably know this if you have been deploying and monitoring private cloud applications – what started off as monitoring a monolithic apps ported to the cloud has now become a mix of cloud-hosted traditional apps, cloud-optimized and cloud-native workloads, complex services and even microservices.

So how do you maintain your quality of service agreements with traditional monitoring tools? You don’t.  You need a solution that makes it easy for you and your users to monitor and analyze the health and performance of complex private clouds, delivers reliability, performance, and high service levels for clouds, and reduces costs by simplifying, automating and pre-configuring cloud monitoring and management.

Today, SUSE just announced a solution that does just that, SUSE OpenStack Cloud Monitoring. The solution – based on the open source open source project, Monasca – enables you to:

  • Make it easy for operators and users to monitor and analyze the health and performance of complex private clouds, underlying infrastructures and user workloads
  • Deliver the reliability, performance, and high service levels for production OpenStack clouds by identifying problems early, minimizing time-to-fix and avoiding downtime.
  • Reduce costs by simplifying, automating and pre-configuring cloud monitoring and management, freeing up valuable operations and user resources for more important tasks.

Fujitsu has been a major contributor to Monasca. Bogdan Barzu, VP Engineering of Fujitsu EST, says this about the need for this solution, “It’s not just about monitoring applications; it’s about becoming pro-active in managing your cloud. You can only accomplish this through analytics and meaningful correlation of data. In turn, this means you need to be able to store and process large amounts of data. Only a cloud native, highly scalable solution like Monasca, can collect, store and provide the right tool.”
