More POWER for SUSE Manager Server!

It’s been a while since I’ve told you a secret. Well, here is another one: When we ran our live demos for SUSE Manager at our Expert Days earlier this year, SUSE Manager was actually running on a server from the IBM Power Systems family! We kept this a secret because back then this was an unsupported platform for SUSE Manager.

But things have changed: The demos ran so smoothly and stable, and we had customer requests, especially from those of you who have chosen to run their SAP workloads on POWER. So we decided to make SUSE Manager Server officially available on the POWER platform! This means that SUSE Manager Server is now available on three hardware platforms: x86-64, IBM z Systems, and finally IBM Power Systems.

There isn’t much else to say: You’ll be able to get an evaluation key for SUSE Manager Server for POWER from the website just as easily as for x86-64. I’ll update this blog post with the final download links once they are up and running.

Installation is performed from a SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP3 system via channels from the SUSE Customer Center. So don’t be surprised to find only the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server ISOs to download on download.suse.com.

By the way, we haven’t updated the documentation with any POWER-specific chapters yet, but once you’ve set up your SUSE Linux Enterprise Server system following the server installation instructions, the SUSE Manager instructions for x86-64 apply accordingly.

This is Joachim Werner blogging live from the SUSE headquarters in Nuremberg, where we’ve just added more POWER to SUSE Manager. 🙂
