Connecting two laptops in Linux

I have two laptops 1: linux suse 11.0
2: linux suse 10.2
I tried twoconnect them using cross cableand I used the ip address for linux suse11(192.168.0.1 ,255.255.255.0) and suse10.2 ip address is(192.168.0.2,255.255.255.0)
but I can’t ping the two ip’s
if any one could help me I’ll be greatfull.
