Motivation

SUSE® Studio™ Onsite and the SUSE Lifecycle Management Server connect to the Internet as a default to synchronize to the Novell® Customer Center (NCC). At the Novell Customer Center they access repositories of packages and updates for SUSE Linux Enterprise.
You can use the Subscription Management Tool (SMT) to override the default and do the following:

  • Minimize the bandwidth for downloading packages
  • Prevent SUSE Studio and SUSE Lifecycle Management Server from connecting to the Internet

This guide explains issues you need to consider during setup if you choose either of these options.
To use the Subscription Management Tool, do the following in this order:

  1. Set up the Subscription Management Tool Server and mirror all needed repositories.
  2. Set up SUSE Studio Onsite.
  3. Install SUSE Lifecycle Management Server.

This guide does not replace the recent installation documentation of the components itself − please read it − the idea is to give additional hints and guiding.

The guide includes right now

  • Subscription Management Tool 11 (SMT11)
  • SUSE Studio Onsite 1.1
  • SUSE Lifecycle Management Server (SLMS 1.1)
  • WebYaST 1.1
  • EC2

The structure of each part of the document will be look like

  1. What you need
  2. Overview of the steps
  3. Steps in details
  4. TIPS

Due to the length of the document it is attached as PDF to this article.
