I’m sure you’ve read the recent exciting announcement about the general availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise 16 here on our SUSE Blog. And I assume that, a little while back, you saw the blog post about our big plan to move from “Monolithic Manuals to Modular Docs“. We talked about leaving behind those massive, hundreds-of-pages-long books in favor of smaller, focused, topic-based, and easy-to-find articles.

Well, the day is finally here! We’re thrilled to announce that with the general availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise 16, what was a plan has turned into reality. I am really excited to tell you that… it’s live! You can head over to documentation.suse.com right now and see the new SUSE Linux Enterprise 16 documentation in action:

Find What You Need, Faster

So, what does this new “modular” approach actually look like for you?

When you land on the product documentation pages for the SUSE Linux Enterprise family, you’ll immediately see that everything is organized into clear, familiar categories. You don’t have to guess which document to open; just look for the topic you need.

For SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, as an example, these categories are currently:

  • About (General info)
  • Deployment
  • Update & Upgrade
  • Administration
  • Containers & Virtualization
  • Product Usage
  • Security & Compliance

For other products, there might be slightly different or additional, but still familiar, categories listed.

And here’s another fantastic little improvement: the Release Notes are right there in the “About” section! No more hunting around on different sites; all the essential info is in one place.

Sort and Filter Your Way

We know that even with great categories, you sometimes just want to find that one specific thing. We’ve got you covered.

On the documentation page, you can use the built-in filters to find exactly what you need. You can sort the list of articles alphabetically, or—my personal favorite—just start typing in the “Filter as you type” search box. As you type (say, “firewall” or “Agama”), the list will instantly narrow down to show only the articles that match.

This whole new experience was designed from the ground up based on your feedback, all to help you find the right answer, faster.

We Want Your Feedback!

This is a big change, and we’re incredibly proud of it—but we’re not done. Your feedback is what got us here, and it’s what will help us keep improving.

As you explore the new SUSE Linux Enterprise 16 documentation, please let us know what you think!

  • On the page: See the “Feedback” button at the right side of the documentation portal? Give it a click, rate the portal, and tell us what you like—or what you don’t.
  • By email: Have more detailed thoughts or suggestions? Send them straight to our team at doc-team@suse.com.

We read every single comment, and we can’t wait to hear what you think.

Go ahead, check it out! Happy reading!
