SUSE retains its placement in the Gartner Magic Quadrant Distributed File Systems and Object Storage

On the 17th October 2017 Gartner published the final results of its 2017 Magic Quadrant for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage*. And while there are over 100 Software Defined Storage vendors in the market, only 15 were recognized in the report, including SUSE. We believe this once again, shows that SUSE has established itself as a leading provider of Software Defined Storage.

Our product is differentiated from upstream and our competition with a truly unified storage approach. We have a node-based and aggressive pricing model with low upfront and incremental costs. And with the recent acquisition of HPE software assets, we now have a larger penetration in OpenStack private cloud deployments, one of the primary use cases for Ceph.

Our inclusion and placement in the report is based on an evaluation of SUSE Enterprise Storage 4, however, we recently announced and version 5 and will be shipping any day now.

This new release, based on the Ceph Luminous release, is faster, more efficient and simpler to manager. It includes new support for “BlueStore”, a new native object storage backend that increases performance by up to a factor of 2. With BlueStore enabled SUSE Enterprise Storage 5 offers up to double the write performance of previous releases, coupled with significant reductions in I/O latency. This enables SUSE Enterprise Storage to now service environments and applications that require higher levels of performance.

Another key feature of the new release is the inclusion of next generation openATTIC management system. This provides our customers with an expanded advanced graphical user interface for simplified management of their SDS environment, helping to improve efficiencies and lower operational costs.
