“A wizard is never late, Frodo Baggins, nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.” – Gandalf, “The Lord of The Rings”

The latest innovations in Real Time Linux enable the high resolution timing and precise system scheduling. The predictability and precision are critical to certain workloads such as manufacturing process control, telecom and high-speed transaction in financial services. Like the wizard’s behavior Gandalf described, SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension is specifically engineered to reduce the latency and increase the predictability and reliability of time-sensitive mission-critical applications.

Yesterday, SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 SP 3 is launched to all customers worldwide. This service pack is a fully supported real-time operating system extension designed to work with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 and SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 SP3 launched in early July. What’s new for this service pack? Let’s take a closer look.

  • The Kernel has inherited the hardware enablement and new features of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3. Latest CPUs, such as Intel Xeon E5 v2 and Haswell is now supported. Compared to earlier generations, these CPUs have better performance in power saving and virtualization. And new hardware drivers such as OFED 1.5.4 are supported for faster system interconnect.(more info)
  • LTTng, the tracing tool for both kernel and userspace applications, has been updated to version 2.1 to take advantage of the community project maturing. Not only is it useful for development, but for production too. This tool gives you the magnifier glass of Sherlock Holmes to analyze what happened. With Eclipse plug in, you will have a visualized way to gain the insight of the system behavior. Even better, LTTng is not only available on SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension, but also on SUSE Linux Enterprise Serverif you have an active subscription of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 SP3 will be supported on x86_64 architecture. And for more information, please visit our website.

I don’t remember if Frodo arrived Bilbo’s celebration on time, but I’m pretty sure that SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 SP 3 can offer you the predictability and reliability a good wizard should behave.

I Need on terminal tty1 a Resolution of 640×480. I also Need the 80 columns and 25 rows. At the Moment I have 80×30, at least according to stty. The commnad stty has no affect what so ever. This graphic chip has given me nothing but Problems from the start. The Server is a TX1310-M1 from Fujitsu. I have in grub Video=640×480 and that works, just the rows are 30 instead of 25. Any Ideas??
