SUSE Focusing on Application Delivery to Meet Customer Needs


At SUSE we pride ourselves on our customer-obsessed view of the world.

It is this customer-fixated culture that has led us to increase our focus on the growing importance of cloud native and container technologies to meet current and future customer needs and align with technology trends around application delivery, Kubernetes and DevOps.

As SUSE embarks on the next stage of our growth and evolution as the world’s largest independent open source company, we will grow the business by aligning our strategy to meet the current and future needs of our enterprise customers as they move to increasingly dynamic hybrid and multi-cloud application landscapes and DevOps processes. We are ideally positioned to execute on this strategy and help our customers embrace the full spectrum of computing environments, from edge to core to cloud.

Our focus in these areas builds on our SUSE Cloud Application Platform and SUSE CaaS Platform products, which have already successfully debuted in the marketplace, but it also includes future technology acquisitions.

As we make these bold customer-driven investments and in order to maximize these opportunities, SUSE has carefully reviewed its business and has decided to cease production of new versions of SUSE OpenStack Cloud and to discontinue sales of SUSE OpenStack Cloud.

This decision clearly aligns with developments in the market, as summarized by Al Gillen, GVP, Software Development and Open Source, IDC: “Digitally determined customers work to achieve differentiation with applications and experiences, rather than through infrastructure deployments. SUSE’s decision to focus its future investments to better enable application delivery moves the company’s value-add higher up the technology stack, to a level where customers want and need tools that empower them to achieve differentiation.”

It goes without saying that we are working closely with all affected customers and partners to support them through their remaining subscription period and as they transition to alternatives.

This increased focus and investment in our strategic solutions will increase SUSE’s effectiveness in enabling customers to create, deploy and manage workloads anywhere – on premise, hybrid and multi-cloud – as they embrace digital transformation to more effectively compete in today’s markets.

I know our customers, partners and communities will support us on this journey as much as they support our transparency around our future intentions.
