K-12 schools, higher education institutions, and other academic organizations are entitled to the benefits included in the free SUSE Academic Program.  In this blog, we’ll take a closer look at the software and licensing subscription features that are included in the Academic Program.

To access the SUSE Academic Program, faculty and staff at qualifying academic institutions can Log In or Register at the academic program homepage: suse.com/academic.

Once logged in, you’ll see this chart showing the software and licensing options:

SUSE Academic Program Subscriptions & Support

The first option is SUSE for Academic Use.  SUSE Software can be used in a classroom or lab for student education purposes at no cost.  Click the “Download” link to get the software you need, and don’t forget to request the registration code to make sure your software is getting patches and updates.  For software that is used for student education in academic settings, SUSE provides patches and updates for FREE.

The next option is self-support.  This option is ideal for non-classroom environments that require minimum support.  This low-priced option is only offered to academic customers, and includes all SUSE patches and updates, but does not include regular support hours.  For volume deployments, one service request is included with every 50 self-support for education subscriptions.  Subscriptions with self-support and academic pricing can be purchased through partners by clicking “Buy from Partner” or directly from SUSE in our Academic Online Store by clicking “Buy Online.”

The final options are Standard and Priority support for education.  These include SUSE’s familiar, all-inclusive award-winning support, patches and updates, and service requests.  Here, again, they are offered as part of our educational buying program with Academic Pricing, and these subscriptions can be purchased through partners by clicking “Buy from Partner” or directly from SUSE in our Academic Online Store by clicking “Buy Online.”
