The Training Services team would like to start off 2013 by shining a spotlight on one of our star instructors. Actually, all of our instructors are stars, but we happen to be focusing this month on Ron Terry.

Ron’s most recent notable accomplishment was designing and delivering a FREE online training module on “SUSE Linux File System Administration” to a capacity crowd to very good reviews. Attendees came thinking it was another of those fluffy marketing events disguised as free training but soon found that Ron is a die-hard and passionate Linux instructor who only delivers the real thing. He believes everyone can and should know and love Linux as much as he does.

In keeping with that belief, Ron has also designed and developed a 5-day course on SUSE Linux called “SUSE Linux Enterprise Foundations (Course 9063)”. Don’t let that mild sounding title fool you. It’s an intense course that covers all the day-to-day knowledge and skills of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server administration in only 5 days.

Two other courses Ron is delivering multiple times over the next few months:

Managing Systems with SUSE Manager

Clustering with SUSE Linux Enterprise HAE and a SAN

Ron firmly believes that “SUSE really is the best engineered and easiest to use Linux distro (I should know because I have used dozens of different distros over the years).”

His wide range of SUSE expertise has led to his developing and delivering:

  • Virtualization on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (Courses 9230 and 9231)
  • High Availability with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (Course 9211)
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Foundations (Course 9063)
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Apps (Course 9073)

Some highlights and background on Ron Terry:

  • He has worked in the IT industry since the 1990s
  • His career path started out as Computer Technician then System Administrator then Technical Trainer
  • His Linux evangelizing has earned him the nickname “The Penguin Priest” among his associates
  • His areas of special interest are High Availability Clustering, Virtualization, and Software Appliances (such as SUSE Studio)
