Exascale, the final frontier, these are the voyages of SUSE Linux Enterprise.  It’s continuing mission to explore strange new ideas, to seek out new approaches and new optimizations, to boldly go where no one has gone before…

I’m sure the above is a dead give-a-way to the booth theme for the SUSE presence at SC16. This theme is extremely fitting given the history SUSE has for being an innovator for enterprise Linux and the recent announcements that SUSE has made.  These announcements include:

  • SLES 12 SP2 – released with updated 4.4 kernel
    • GCC 6.2 in the toolchain module
    • HPC Module
    • 64-bit ARM support
    • DPDK + Open vSwitch
  • SLES 12 SP2 for the Raspberry Pi
    • Free to use
    • no-cost for maintenance updates
  • SUSE OpenStack Cloud 7
    • Includes supported Magnum & Kubernetes
    • Can be leveraged for HPC as a Service
  • SUSE Enterprise Storage 4
    • Production support for CephFS
    • Integration of salt for configuration and deployment at scale

These are just a small number of the ways in which SUSE is helping our customers and partners prepare for the future of super computing.  SUSE has always had an eye towards the future and still has a strong focus on making the latest open source technology enterprise consumable, this is part of the reason why SUSE is the leading commercial Linux marketshare in the the top 100 Super Computing systems.

Staying at the forefront in technology innovation while maintaining the stability, reliability, and manageability that enterprises require, mandates extremely strong engineering and product management teams that are supported by a world class executive team.  I am pleased to say that we have a fair representation of SUSE employees, including engineers and product management around the Super Compute show this week.  If you’d like to know more, stop by booth #4427 or look for someone in SUSE garb, there will be plenty of us around, in sessions, roaming the expo hall, etc.
