Kubernetes changed how we manage our applications and it has done the same for storage data which is growing at a staggering rate, coming from a vast variety of sources. The global software-defined-storage (SDS) is expected to hit $16 billion by 2020.

In such a promising context, a partnership between Portworx and SUSE definitely made sense. It goes back to 2018 right after we met at Kubecon in Copenhagen. The Kubernetes ecosystem was just booming, and we were looking for partners who could align with us in the adoption of cloud native and container-based technologies. Portworx can be used to run any stateful service, on top of any cloud or storage infrastructure, using any Kubernetes platform and has now been certified on SLES 12 and lately on our latest version of CaaS Platform 4.

Portworx a Bay Area-based company (recently acquired by Pure Storage) has created innovation in container-native data services and was recently named the #1 Kubernetes Data Storage Solution by GigaOm.  Portworx Enterprise is the software-defined container storage platform built from the ground up for Kubernetes. By providing scale-out software defined container storage, data availability, data security, backup and disaster recovery for Kubernetes-based applications running on-prem or across clouds, Portworx has helped dozens of Global 2000 companies such as Carrefour, Comcast, GE Digital, Lufthansa, T-Mobile, and SAIC run containerized data services in production.

The Portworx Enterprise Storage Platform is an end-to-end storage and data management solution for any Kubernetes projects, including container-based CaaS, DBaaS, SaaS, and Disaster Recovery initiatives.

As a software defined storage overlay for containers Portworx allows you to:

  • Run containerized stateful applications that are highly-available (HA) across multiple nodes, cloud instances, regions, data centers or even clouds
  • Migrate workloads between multiple clusters running across same or hybrid clouds/on-prem
  • Enable hyperconvergence where the data resides on the same host as the applications runs
  • Automated and have programmatic control over your data/storage services

By efficiently managing infrastructure, Portworx reduces compute costs of containerized stateful applications by 40-60% and reduces storage costs by 30% or more. Additionally, Portworx reduces risk to container initiatives by automatically managing common failure scenarios while ensuring consistent, high performance for stateful workloads.
