February 2015, SUSE announced the first release of SUSE Enterprise Storage – Powered by Ceph and one year later, SUSE named to Gartner’s 2016 Magic Quadrant for Distributed File Systems and Object Storage. This is a significant achievement and technology vendors know what it takes to be named on Gartner’s Magic Quadrant. Some of the requirements are revenue, number of production customers, deployment in major geographies, as well as specific technical ones.

Leveraging its extensive engineering expertise with distributed file systems and high availability clusters SUSE rapidly brings a market leading scale-out software-defined storage system to market.

Gartner recognizes SUSE Enterprise Storage as aggressively priced, based on nodes rather than capacity, and, as a result, customers can deploy cost-efficient object storage using commodity servers with densely configured disk storage.

One way to understand this major milestone is to look back at what happened between 2015 and 2016, below the list of public announcements:

SUSE Enterprise Storage, Powered by Ceph, Now Available
SUSE Enterprise Storage Named ‘Product of the Year’ by Network Computing
SUSE Takes Two at Storage Awards, Including ‘Editor’s Choice’
SUSE Enterprise Storage 2 First to Bring Ceph-Based Storage to Any OS
SUSE Wins ‘Best Software-Defined Solution’ for OpenStack Cloud and Ceph Storage Offerings
SUSE and it-novum Collaborate to Enhance Storage Management in Ceph
SUSE Enterprise Storage 2.1, Powered by Ceph, Now Available
SUSE Takes Two ‘Product of the Year’ Awards for Storage and Cloud from Network Computing
SUSE and HPE Deliver Storage Solution to Help Customers Cost Effectively Manage Massive Data Growth
SUSE Enterprise Storage 3 Helps Customers Adapt to Changing Data Demands

4 awards and 3 major releases between 2015 and 2016! I say this is exceptional performance.

There is no doubt this pace will continue for the benefit of enterprise customers. Join SUSECON 7-11 NOVEMBER ★ Washington D.C. to learn more about SUSE Enterprise Storage.
