BrightStor provides the ability to extend its internal database to multiple directory locations. This allows for size growth if the underlying file system does not support large files ( > 2 GB) or does not have enough space. Note:- I could not do backup /restore operations of the OES 2 Linux NSS Volumes using the TSA Agent until I installed the patches mention here. However the backup would proceed because of the Linux Agent that gets installed by default along with the server.
- Incase of the Systems where only the oes Agent was installed (Not server and the Linux Agent), I could not proceed with the backup /restore operations until I installed the below mentioned patches.
- Once the Installation is complete, install the Latest Patches Available. The following patches are the latest available according to me.https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/solndtls?aparNo=QO99714&os=LINUX&actionID=3
https://support.ca.com/irj/portal/solndtls?aparNo=QO99756&os=LINUX&actionID=3
- Patch Installation steps:
- Shutdown CA ARCserve common agent ( caagent stop ).
- Copy the fix file to a temporary directory, uncompress and untar as follows:mkdir /tmp/ca_patch
cd /tmp/ca_patch
uncompress QO99714.tar.Z
tar -xvf QO99714.tar - Change directory to CA ARCserve common agent directory ( default: /opt/CA/BABcmagt )
- Save the original files:
cp -p caagentd caagentd_pre_QO99714 - Copy in the new files:
cp /tmp/T4c4047/caagentd /opt/CA/BABcmagt - Change directory to CA ARCserve OES Agent library directory
(default: /opt/CA/BABoesagt/lib ). - Save the original files:
cp -p libbabsms.so libbabsms.so_pre_QO99714 - Copy in the new files:
cp /tmp/T4c4047/libbabsms.so /opt/CA/BABoesagt/lib - Start CA ARCserve common agent (agent start).
- Use http://<machine name>:6060″ to access CA ARCserve base for backup, restore and other options.
Comments
Despite of your very clear and uderstandable installprocedure/guide i have no OES-agent visible .. it says it’s available (and enabled) but does not show up..not at first install, and not after patching with the patches advised.
Other agents like the Apache and MySQL agent ( and the normal linux agent) are running.
– no logging is created at all ……so i have no clue where it’s/ i made a wrong turn whatsoever.
After searching for almost a week i’ve contacted support and am waiting for a technician…..( CA )
Thanks and great how to.
It works for me when I installed patch Q99714 and now I can see “Novell OES” icon in CA backup Manager. The problem now is I can’t browse that Novell OES volume. Seem both linux or novell authentication failed to login. Any idea?
p/s: I don’t have problem to browse and backup other folders using normal linux agent.
I’m in the same spot. upgraded novell-sms with no change. Did you find a solution ?
in our case we’ve found the solution;
our server has multiple lancards, and eth0 is the l(public) link and eth1 is private…
In a searchy mood i came across : /etc/opt/novell/sms/smdrd.conf :
this reads :
# ip: [
# Specify the IP address to listen on in the dotted decimal
# format XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
so in logically readig sms would bind to the public side, and not the private side that i want it to enabeling to communicate with the server.
so i changed the ip to reflect the internal/private ip
restarted the smdsd daemon and there was my OES-agent ..
Problem in the background is that Brightstor CA does not read all bound ip’s and then searches for agents .. it just does what you tell it to
i’ve closed my call at CA now, and have given the suggestion about reading/checking all ip’s configured on a server when looking for agents..
Hope this helps you
