SUSE Boosts Business Flexibility by Expanding Availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications in AWS Marketplace

SUSE® has expanded the availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications via Amazon Web Services Marketplace (AWS Marketplace). Customers can now buy SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications–including support for SAP HANA high availability–directly on AWS Marketplace in the form of a pay-per-use image. Computing demand often fluctuates within an enterprise, and maintaining peak-level resources at all times can be costly and inefficient. Paying only for the compute capacity they use with no minimum fees, customers can now leverage AWS on-demand cloud services to run SAP applications by the compute hour on the leading Linux platform for SAP solutions, giving them flexibility to increase computing resources as they need them. SUSE partnered with cloud commerce provider Orbitera to deliver the on-demand Linux platform usage.

“A key component of growth for our customers is increasing efficiency within the IT department,” said Naji Almahmoud, head of global business development for SUSE. “CIOs and IT managers are realizing that having servers sitting idle in a data center is a waste of their resources. By expanding the availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise for SAP Applications on AWS, we are giving them a new way to manage their compute needs without having to sink money into hardware or long-term contracts.”

With new options for running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications on AWS, customers benefit from flexible AWS infrastructure that quickly matches their changing computing needs. This frees them from the costs and complexities of planning, purchasing and maintaining hardware and transforms what are commonly large fixed costs into much smaller variable costs. The SUSE solution also includes high availability resource agents for deployments of the SAP HANA platform. These agents allow SAP HANA instances to failover between AWS Availability Zones (AZ) and were engineered to run on the AWS Cloud.

Customers have been able to use their existing subscriptions to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications to develop and test SAP workloads on AWS through SUSE’s “bring-your-own-subscription” program since last year. SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is now available in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) free usage tier, allowing new customers to use the Linux platform for up to 750 hours each month as they test drive SUSE Linux Enterprise Server on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).

Új SUSE Linux Enterprise: híd a régi és az új technológiák között

A SUSE a nyílt forráskódú világ egyik legfontosabb eseményén mutatta be a SUSE Linux Enterprise legfrissebb kiadását, amellyel a szervezetek még egyszerűbben kihasználhatják a legújabb technológiák előnyeit, beleértve a mikroszolgáltatásokat, valamint a felhőalapú, illetve konténerizált alkalmazásokat.

Tegnap ért véget Sanghajban az open source világ egyik legrangosabb konferenciája, a KubeCon + CloudNativeCon + Open Source Summit China, ahol a legnagyobb vállalatok számoltak be arról, hogyan használják sikeresen a nyílt forráskódú megoldásokat olyan technológiák kiaknázására, mint a blockchain, a mesterséges intelligencia vagy az IoT. A SUSE az esemény platina fokozatú szponzoraként erre a rendezvényre időzítette a SUSE Linux Enterprise legfrissebb változatának bemutatását. A további támogatók között olyan nevek szerepeltek, mint például az Alibaba Cloud, az AWS, az Intel, a Google Cloud, az Oracle, a VMware és a Yahoo.

A konferencia sokszínűségének jegyében az eseményen bemutatott SUSE Linux Enterprise Server is számos fontos újdonságot tartogat és támogat. A SUSE a tavaly kiadott SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 verzióval egy „multimodális” operációs rendszert vezetett be, amely áthidalja a szakadékot a hagyományos és az új típusú, szoftveresen vezérelt infrastruktúra között. Ezáltal lehetővé teszi a vállalatok számára, hogy hatékonyan üzemeltessék régóta alkalmazott rendszereiket, miközben kihasználhatják az új technológiák előnyeit is.

A most megjelent SUSE Linux Enterprise 15 SP1 kiadás ezt a multimodális irányvonalat viszi tovább.   • Továbbfejlesztett támogatás edge és HPC szolgáltatásokhoz: Az új SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for Arm verzióban duplájára nőtt a támogatott egylapkás rendszerek száma, ennek köszönhetően a rendszer még több tárolási és ipari automatizálási alkalmazáshoz biztosít támogatást a 64 bites ARM szervereken és IoT-eszközökön.
  • Megerősített hardveralapú védelem: A friss kiadás teljes körű támogatást biztosít az AMD Secure Encrypted Virtualization (SEV) technológiájához, amely lehetővé teszi, hogy a vendég gépek titkosított memóriában fussanak, így védve vannak a hypervisor memóriája ellen intézett támadásoktól.
  • Rövidebb állásidő a frissítések telepítésénél: A SUSE CaaS Platformban már korábban bemutatott, automatikus tranzakciós frissítések több különféle felhőcsomagban használhatók, szükség esetén visszaállíthatók, és nincsenek hatással a futó rendszerre. Nincs olyan ember, akinek ne jönne jól egy kristálygömb, amelyből megtudhatja, merre tartanak a dolgok, és mit hoz a jövő. Az informatika gyorsan változó világában ez különösen igaz, ahol a szakembereknek a bokros mindennapi teendők mellett kell figyelemmel kísérniük a legújabb trendeket.

Mi a SUSE-nál igyekszünk ezzel kapcsolatban is segítséget nyújtani. A SUSECON konferencián a szakembereink a termékekkel kapcsolatos legfrissebb információk mellett évről évre megosztják a jövőre vonatkozó meglátásait, illetve az aktuális jelenségekkel kapcsolatos tapasztalataikat is. Idén november 7. és 11. között rendezzük meg a konferenciát Washingtonban, és a hagyományokhoz híven magyarul is közzéteszünk majd egy összefoglalót az eseményről.

SUSE Manager Rises into the Public Cloud via ‘Bring Your Own Subscription’

SUSE® today announced the availability of SUSE Manager in the public cloud via SUSE’s “bring-your-own-subscription” program. The program allows enterprise customers to transfer their existing SUSE Manager subscriptions for use in public clouds provided by SUSE Certified Cloud Service Providers including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Compute Engine and Microsoft Azure. As a result, customers benefit from the compute resources of their cloud services provider, while smoothly deploying SUSE Manager at no additional cost and continuing to receive support directly from SUSE.

SUSE Manager provides complete lifecycle management and monitoring for Linux servers across distributions, hardware architectures, virtual platforms and cloud environments. SUSE Manager running in the public cloud supports hybrid application deployments and enables customers to simultaneously manage workloads running both in the public cloud and in on-premise, private data centers across multiple locations or branch offices.

SUSE Launches Amazon Web Services Test Drive

SUSE® today introduced its first Amazon Web Services (AWS) Test Drive running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. The AWS Test Drive of the Secure Messaging Service is free, allowing customers to try a secure and reliable digital registered mail solution that meets international protocols and standards. The AWS Test Drive combines SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, WSO2 Enterprise Service Bus and Yenlo Digilink (Digikoppeling) to enable secure communication for governments and businesses.

The AWS Test Drive program provides users with an easy and structured way to set up preconfigured solutions and test them at no cost or risk. The first in a planned series of SUSE-based AWS Test Drives, the Secure Messaging Service test drive is delivered in a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) format and can be tested on the AWS Cloud at no cost.

“The AWS Test Drive program provides an ideal way for AWS users to test innovative solution stacks before deploying into production,” said Naji Almahmoud, global head of business development for SUSE. “SUSE works with our partners like WSO2 and Yenlo to create these test drive opportunities so our enterprise customers get the most efficient access to the solutions they need. SUSE and UShareSoft Introduce First Hybrid Cloud Solution Based on SUSE Cloud

SUSE® and UShareSoft today announced UForge for SUSE Cloud, the first ready-to-run hybrid cloud solution based on SUSE Cloud, the first enterprise OpenStack distribution, with an integrated store for enterprise application templates and easy-to-use tools for software onboarding. SUSE and UShareSoft have collaborated to ensure SUSE Cloud and UShareSoft’s UForge are fully integrated and optimized to work together out of the box, making it easier for enterprises to adopt cloud computing.

SUSE customers can install UForge instantly for SUSE Cloud, allowing them to create and manage custom software and applications for SUSE Cloud and hybrid environments, migrate live servers to SUSE Cloud and hybrid environments in less than 30 minutes, and enhance SUSE Cloud with an enterprise application catalog.

The new solution allows customers to choose—and move—between private and public cloud deployments, while ensuring full software governance and application lifecycle management. Together, SUSE Cloud and UForge enable enterprise customers to implement hybrid clouds out of the box, offering efficient scaling of resources and fast, simple, consistent workload deployment across existing virtual data centers or new public or private clouds.

Calzedonia Improves Competitiveness with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications

SUSE today announced that the Calzedonia Group, one of Italy’s most popular retail chains of intimate apparel and accessories, has reduced IT operational costs while improving uptime and performance by using SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications. By implementing an open, scalable and trusted SUSE Linux Enterprise platform, Calzedonia saved over 70% on hardware acquisition and maintenance costs, while also achieving 99.9% uptime for its business-critical SAP applications. And due to its growing popularity, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications is now enabled and being offered on-demand, available for cloud service providers to resell to its customers through the SUSE Cloud Provider Program.

Calzedonia’s previous ERP system struggled to keep up with increasing data demands and was beginning to hinder its ambitious international growth plans. Calzedonia replaced it with a comprehensive suite of SAP applications running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications and industry standard hardware.
