Happy Holidays from the SUSE Academic Program
Our gift to you:
The holiday season is all about giving and at SUSE we want to continue to give the gift of education. In the academic community, the holidays often mark the end of a semester, which means it’s a perfect time to see how our program can benefit your students in 2019.
A look back:
The SUSE Academic Program made major developments over the past year and we have big plans for expanding access to students in 2019. Enrolling over 500 institutions globally and improving user experience through a revamped website was certainly a success. Our no-cost program provides technical training, curriculum, lab materials and educational resources for academic institutions of all type. IT staff members can take advantage of the free technical training, but we also encourage academic department heads and professors to leverage these resources in the class room. In addition, there is a team of dedicated academic program managers available in your region to support registration, implementation, administration and answer any questions you may have.
What the future holds:
The new year also makes us think of the future and the potential for Linux educated professionals that is in store. According to the Linux Foundation Open Source Jobs Report 2018, “87% of hiring managers are having a hard time recruiting enough open source talent”. In order to meet this need, SUSE created a platform for the academic community, utilized by professors and enjoyed by students globally. With companies such as Uber, Google and Facebook all investing in open source, it’s hard for students to not get excited about learning Linux. We hope to see a future where Linux knowledge and skills are standard amongst professionals in the IT industry.
Here is to 2019:
As 2018 comes to a close, we reflect on the progress made thus far, but are far from done in striving to provide a high level of education in open source software solutions. We hope you enjoy our gift to the academic community and are excited about our plans to take even larger steps in 2019.
