Orica Ltd, the world’s largest provider of commercial explosives, has been undergoing a business transformation program and we are pleased to have been part of that journey along with Cognizant.

For this project, Cognizant was tasked to make Orica’s next-generation enterprise SAP IT environment cost-efficient, secure and highly available.

In order to do this, they implemented SAP S/4HANA running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications, on the Microsoft Azure Cloud Platform, via a Managed Public Cloud Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering.

As part of the ongoing implementation, eight core enterprise business processes will be transitioned to S/4HANA Digital Core and rolled out globally across 57 countries.

Cognizant has put in place a consumption based pricing model for IT infrastructure at Orica and is also managing Orica’s SAP applications and HANA databases on a pay-per-usage model.

Cognizant has deployed over 60 Fiori apps for Payroll Business Processes and is now working on the deployment of over 1000 apps for S/4 HANA which will enable Orica Users to achieve a truly mobile “Anywhere, Anytime, Any Device” access to core enterprise systems.

Cognizant, Microsoft and SUSE worked together to build a collaborative solution based on Multi-Node iSCSI server configuration. This Multi-Node iSCSI server HA configuration for SAP Applications in Orica were the first to be deployed with this configuration in Azure Platform.

Orica is also the first customer to run a Multi-SID SUSE High Availability cluster configuration in Azure.

In addition deploying the S/4 HANA landscape on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications, Cognizant is also leveraging SUSE Manager to manage the SAP systems and SUSE Linux Enterprise Live Patching for reducing unplanned downtime that can be caused by critical security updates.
