Announcing Service Pack 3 for SUSE Linux Enterprise 12

SUSE is pleased to announce worldwide availability of the SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 Service Pack 3 product family.

This new service pack release enables customers to optimize their infrastructure with support for the latest environments for ARM (AArch64), Intel, AMD, SAP HANA, z Systems, POWER-based servers and NVM (Non-Volatile Memory) Express over Fabrics.

As always, our customers want options—and Service Pack 3 provides lots of them. Enterprises that need to accelerate innovation require an agile infrastructure that can scale workloads responsively to meet increasing demand. At the same time, they need to improve efficiency, reliability and security. SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 SP3 helps customers to:

  • Get the most out of their IT infrastructure
  • Prevent downtime
  • Make their IT infrastructure more efficient and secure

Get the Most Out of IT infrastructure

SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 Service Pack 3 does more to optimize IT infrastructures than ever. With this further support, customers can:

  • Open the doors for broad hardware and virtualization support with higher compute density, less power consumption and economical hardware using new ARM System-on-a-Chip (SoC) systems from Cavium, Qualcomm, and others
  • Improve infrastructure agility with support for Intel’s newest and most powerful Xeon® Processor Scalable family
  • Increase responsiveness with added support for the latest AMD EPYC™ and Ryzen™ processors for virtualization, compute and datacenter workloads, including desktop systems
  • Support data transaction and workload size growth for very large SAP HANA workloads on POWER using extended virtual address space
  • Optimize workloads and increase data security for z Systems with full support for SUSE KVM on z and enhanced cryptographic support for end-to-end data encryption

Prevent Downtime

SUSE Linux Enterprise has always been part of any “zero downtime” solution. Now you can further enhance uptime with:

  • Improved geo recovery management with a geo cluster bootstrap kit that simplifies cluster implementation
  • The ability to increase visibility and improve management of the high availability environment with an updated graphical user interface
  • Faster time to value with quick start guides for the High Availability and Geo Clustering extensions to help you get up and running quickly

Boost Efficiency and Security

Faster data access, increased database performance and optimized SAP applications all help drive agility, performance and security. These enhancements enable you to:

  • Improve application performance with fast local (NVMe – Non-Volatile Memory Express) and remote storage device communications with NVMe over Fabrics (NoF). Using NVMe you can fully exploit the benefits of modern solid-state memory technology.
  • Increase database performance with enhanced NV-DIMM (Non-Volatile Dual In-line Memory Module) block device support
  • Optimize more SAP applications for performance with configuration and tuning support for SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise and SAP Business Objects
  • Expand security capabilities with updated support for TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0 and expanded key server support for SAP system volumes with the KMIP industry standard

SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 SP3 images are also available for public cloud infrastructures, making it easier to offer public cloud services and migrate to public cloud from on-premise environments.
