Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has been a strategic SAP Customer, SAP Global Technology Partner and SAP Data Center Supplier since 1994 and thus it’s no surprise that HPE took part in the annual SAP Innovation Awards 2020. With the business transformation project “HPE Next”, HPE aimed at re-architecting its structure to enhance customer, partner and employee experiences.

More is not always better

The HPE Next business transformation had the goal to simplify HPE’s organizational structure, redesign processes and improve business drivers in order to support HPE’s evolving business and provide better services and experience to customers, partners and employees. However, HPE IT was using too many different platforms: Ten different ERP systems, ten core databases as well as complex legacy applications and fragmented processes. Hence, a HPE Next transformation was hardly possible.

Partners have each other’s back

For this reason, HPE looked for help among its longtime partner SAP and decided to deploy SAP S/4 HANA on SUSE. In addition, to support the HPE Next project, HPE launched its own digital transformation to build Next-Generation IT (NGIT) to simplify IT tools, processes and applications which too runs on SAP S/4HANA. During the transformation, Intelligent Enterprise platform running on S/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA for central finance foundation, SAP Supply Chain Response Management (SCM), SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP), SAP Ariba, SAP Concur, SAP Fieldglass, SAP Billing and Revenue Innovation Management, SAP Commerce, SAP Sales Cloud, and SAP Analytics Cloud were deployed to replace the ten different ERP systems and the other applications.

HPE Next and HPE NGIT to ensure further growth

As a result, HPE and SAP S/4HANA created game-changing customer, partner and employee experiences – transforming how customers do business with HPE, how partners interact with HPE, and how employees work at HPE. The application landscape could be simplified, from 800 applications to only 400, sales processes were optimized and touchpoints reduced by 90%. The eCommerce revenue could be increased from $1 billion to $2.5 billion and real-time, cross functional data enhances information processing. All in all, through its business and digital transformation, HPE can ensure continuous growth and was able to build the fundament for a successful future.
