SUSE Studio Onsite is an easy-to-use software tool installed inside the enterprise network that allows you to rapidly build and test hardware, software, and virtual appliances based on SUSE Linux Enterprise (SLE). SUSE Studio Onsite provides similar core functions like the SUSE Studio Online Web service. SUSE Studio Onsite 1.2 supports SLE10 SP4 and SLE11 SP1 as base operating systems for appliances. It allows building 32-bit X86 and 64-bit X86-64 appliances.
SUSE Studio Advanced Edition 1.2 also allows users to build images for the System z architecture. By configuring a runner specific for this architecture, users can use a new template for System z (SUSE Studio Extension for System z 1.2). Currently, only 64-bit images can be built, based on SLES 11 SP1 for System z.
SUSE Studio Onsite 1.2 is shipping as a software appliance. Therefore, it must be deployed on non-virtualized hosts.
SUSE Studio Extension for System z 1.2 is shipping as an add-on product for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 for System z SP1.

SMT-11 can be used in situations where SUSE Studio Onsite instance cannot connect Novell Customer Center directly (e.g., in case host is not connected to internet).
For registering SUSE Studio Onsite against an SMT server, click the SMT link during the registration step of SUSE Studio Onsite.
After synchronizing with the Novell Customer Center, the SMT 11 instance will support the SUSE Studio Onsite product. Check the synchronization with the command "smt list-products". For SUSE Studio Onsite registration to work properly, make sure the following catalogs are mirrored by the SMT 11 server:

SUSE Studio Onsite 1.2 can use an SMT server to access package repositories needed for building appliances. To enable all default templates of SUSE Studio Onsite 1.2, the following repositories need to be mirrored on the SMT server:
To allow users to build images for System z architecture, you need to install SUSE Studio Extension for System z. It is delivered as add-on product for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP1 for System z. For a description how to install SUSE Studio Onsite, refer to the installation instructions available at http://download.novell.com.
Note: Only installation on a running system is currently supported.

This is a list of known issues in this release.
If a user reboots a Xen image running in testdrive, the image will not boot anymore with message:
Failed to find MBR identifier.
The reason is that the Xen testdrive virtual machine cannot use a new initrd generated after first boot of the image. This situation does not occur when booting on a real machine, only in the Testdrive environment.
