SUSE Studio is a service to build integrated and pre-configured, customized application images or appliances with just enough operating system that can be deployed quickly and easily to a variety of targets. Leveraging the software appliance form factor, SUSE Studio is the fastest and easiest to deploy your applications to physical and virtual environments or extend your applications to the cloud.
Why are appliances cool?
Software appliances are virtual machines that have only one task: serving a particular application. A software appliance is a preconfigured disk image that contains an application, middleware, database, and minimal operating system. SUSE Studio™ makes it very easy to create software appliances of any kind.
Within a software appliance, the operating system is often configured for the specific function of the appliance, with excess and unnecessary capabilities removed. This is called a Just Enough Operating System (JeOS). The JeOS contains just the components the application needs, and nothing more.
Using SUSE Studio, you can configure the application in the appliance for a specific purpose. By configuring the JeOS and the application together, you can avoid all kinds of installation errors and issues. The combined image needs very little "last mile" setup–it is a plug and play experience for the customer.
