SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension is an add-on to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server that transforms the general purpose operating system into a fully supported, real time operating system, specifically engineered to reduce latency, increase the predictability and reliability of your time sensitive mission critical applications, and lower costs.
This real time extension inherits the advantages of the latest SUSE Linux Enterprise platform, as well as delivers enhancements to the real time scheduler and more fine grained locking mechanisms, improving performance and scalability. SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 1 also includes support for per device interrupt threads, enabling for the first time, tuning at the device level. In addition, new hardware latency detectors and reporting capabilities increase visibility, helping customers reduce latency and optimize performance across their entire real time stack - hardware and software.
