SAN FRANCISCO (LinuxWorld Conference & Expo 2004), 04-08-2004
- For price-performance, SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 outperforms Windows Server 2003
- Designed for high performance and reliability, SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 handles corporate customers' requirements with ease
Novell's SUSE® LINUX Enterprise Server 9 has set the new standard for TPC-C* price-performance, beating out proprietary operating systems to establish a new world record in price-performance.
The first benchmark with SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 and IBM DB2 Universal Database* Express Edition set a new world record for best price-performance with $1.61/tpmC (transactions per minute) on an HP ProLiant* Server. The result demonstrates the ability of SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server to handle corporate customers' requirements in a high performing, yet cost effective, way.
"The new world record clearly demonstrates the strengths of SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 – it is the right choice for customers who are looking for great performance, while still reducing costs, in mission-critical deployments," said Markus Rex, general manager of Novell's SUSE LINUX business unit. "DB2 Universal Database and SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 deliver a compelling value to even small and medium-sized businesses who want to lower their cost of ownership and benefit from exceptional stability, performance and security of Linux."
"This new result further extends the leadership DB2 Universal Database has held in this price-performance metric since April of 2004," said Gary Schneider, director, Linux Business Development, IBM Information Management. "As proven here, the combination of DB2 Universal Database and Novell's SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 provides an exciting alternative for anyone seeking to eliminate their reliance on proprietary platforms or higher-priced database software."
